Review: Lady Day Coat in pretty blue

A quick review of the lady day coat from J.Crew in a pretty vibrant blue (I cannot recall name and it is not available online anymore).  The first picture below shows the texture but does not give the color justice.  I’d say the gorgeous blue is consistent with the second picture.

Pros: pretty color, nice fit, reduced price

 Cons: final sale item

Material: mixture of wool and polyester.  I’d say the wool is same as the double-cloth coat

Fit: TTS to slightly small.  The fit is tighter than the double-cloth as the lady day accentuates the waist more.  I went TTS but was advised after my order to size up by the J.Crew Aficionada community. I would say to go with your larger coat size at the crew.  I am OK with my true size but could have gone up as well.  This was final sale so no return.

J.Crew Review: Convertible Toggle Coat

Another 40% item (the code “TAKENOTE” is still valid): the Toggle Coat in brilliant flame.  J.Crew does not offer the coat in Tall, so I chose one size up for extra length.

Pros: gorgeous color, a very bright orangish red. Mid length, great quality, versatile with the zipper to remove the hood for a different style.  Also, a hidden zipper in addition to the buttons in the front.

Cons: The hood does not leave much space to fully cover your head (unless I simply have a big one 😉 ); the price tag is high considering the coat is a mixture of wool and polyester, without thinsulate lining for added warmth.  In fact, the coat is pretty light weight, I would say the Majesty Peacoat is much warmer, with a softer wool.

Fit: I’d say true to size for regular; if you are taller than average, I’d recommend to go one or two sizes up to get a decent length in the sleeves.

Material:80% wool and 20% nylon with 100% polyester lining

Sissi’s verdict: final sale so will keep. However, if you are interested in the look, you may want to consider the Runswick Duffle by Jack Wills.  You can see the coat on ClassyGirlsWearPearls as well.

Review: J.Crew Lace-Trim Swiss-Dot Top in Neutral

Took advantage of the 40% off promo (code: SHOPHAPPY, ending Jan 7th 2014) and purchased the swiss-dot top in neutral.  I saw the top on a sales person paired with black skinnies and black mid-heel pumps…will try to copy her look 😉

Pros: the lace and swiss-dot combination is well executed, very comfortable, great with promo price, can be styled up or worn casual. Loving the buttons on the back!

Cons: the longer length…I went with tall and while length is OK, it is longer than am used to at J.Crew.  However, it matches the regular length on the store stylist and looks just as good.

Fit: true to size.  The fit leaves room for arm movement so no snuggle fit to protect the silk.  The fabric is sheer and you could wear with a cami underneath but should be OK without.

Quality: mixture of silk and cotton with polyester lining

Review: J.Crew Collection Pencil Skirt with Leather

My last purchase with the extra 40% off was the Collection No.2 Pencil Skirt in leather-tipped double serge wool.  Undecided if I should keep this, I think I should go with one size down…but I may lose the length. Let me know what you think.

Outfit details: top and skirt

Pros: True to size, knee-length (am 6 feet), great quality on wool and leather, comfortable, tucked-in style most likely to showcase the leather panel at the waist

Cons: none really, the skirt matched my expectations

Sissi’s verdict: great skirt, a potential keeper
